Therapy and assessment services
Therapy and assessment.
What do our services involve, and how do we work? Here you can learn more about our therapeutic approaches and diagnostic assessments.
01 · Psychotherapy
Understanding behaviour.
Exploring new ways forward.
In behavioural therapy, we work together to examine which thoughts, feelings and behaviours play a role in everyday life. This involves looking at both sources of stress and personal strengths and helpful experiences.
We set individual goals and explore ways of dealing with difficult situations. Depending on the child’s age and the issues involved, parents or other key caregivers may be involved.
Our focus is on
- the child’s or young person’s concerns and circumstances,
- a clear understanding of difficulties and how they connect,
- practical steps that can be tried out in everyday life.
02 · Distressing experiences
EMDR as part of
a tailored treatment plan.
EMDR is a therapeutic approach that can be used for distressing experiences and trauma-related symptoms. We carefully assess whether it is appropriate for each person.
We choose the approach according to the child’s or young person’s circumstances, stage of development and needs. EMDR is not suitable for every concern.
03 · Practising together
Groups for social skills
and coping strategies.
In groups, children and young people can explore social situations together, recognise their own strengths and develop new ways of dealing with emotions, conflicts and relationships.
Social skills
Expressing personal needs, recognising boundaries, building relationships and practising ways to manage conflict.
Dealing with emotions
Learn to make sense of your feelings more effectively and discover helpful strategies for dealing with stress and challenging everyday situations.
Participation depends on the child’s concerns and needs, group availability and whether the group is a suitable match.
04 · Careful assessment
Assessment helps us understand
what support is needed.
We assess emotional and psychological difficulties, developmental and learning difficulties, and behavioural concerns in children and young people. The interviews, questionnaires and assessment methods we use depend on the question being explored.
ADHD, attention
and learning
Assessment of concentration and attention difficulties, as well as developmental and academic problems.
Autism assessment
Targeted assessment when there are indications of an autism spectrum disorder. In doing so, we take into account the child’s development, daily life and information provided by key caregivers.
Reading and spelling assessment
Diagnostic assessment for reading and spelling difficulties. We interpret the results and discuss potential next steps.
Emotional distress or behavioural difficulties can also be the reason for an assessment. We explain the results in a clear and understandable way and discuss potential next steps together. An enquiry does not mean that a specific diagnosis has already been made.
